Who Am I To Mentor You?

Though Texas has been my home for decades, I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria to parents who were the heads of what was then a typical middle-class family. That meant they took care of their immediate family—my two brothers and myself—and cared for a network of extended family members. As such, they assisted cousins and many others to go to school, establish careers and attain financial security.

That tradition continues for most middle-class Nigerians, but today’s generation aspire to create long-lasting generational wealth that will outlive our children and potentially, their heirs.

Coming from a family with two very hard-working parents, I grew up knowing the importance of diligence. My dad ran a successful publishing business for years and my mom was a well-respected educator. Both fostered my knack for business, encouraging every venture, no matter how foolhardy it seemed. It is that family environment and support that allowed me to start my first business at the age of 13. It wasn’t as successful as I would have wanted it to be, but I was hooked. I’ve been an entrepreneur ever since.

Today, my company, Nabro Furnished Housing, provides furnished, transient housing in the state of Texas with plans to expand at the right time. I can credit my parents for encouraging in me to strive for better. My other company, Furnished Housing Consultants, helps home owners and realtors sell or rent properties for maximum profit.

On the personal side, I am active in my church, give my time and resources to assisting my alma mater, and other philanthropic projects specifically in the education of young children, I also serve as a mentor to young entrepreneurs.

I’m a bit of a kid at heart and love to do things that would likely terrify others. For instance, on a vacation in Central America, I went rafting well into the Atlantic Ocean. It was just my friend and I. Frankly, the idea of paddling a rickety wooden raft out into the ocean is a bit out there, but it was the exact challenge I needed that day. On the more conventional side, I practice Wu Taichi which I started during the COVID 19 pandemic having retired from playing amateur racquetball when courts were shut down. I’ve also picked up the habit of listening to audio books. As I live in Texas and spend a lot of time driving, audio books allow my mind to travel far away. I still manage to pay attention to the roads though. I wish I had more time so I could travel more than I currently do. I’ve got learning Spanish as an item on my bucket list. I’d also like to become better at Latin dance, learn to play a musical instrument, and spend my later years as a visiting lecturer at some college teaching and training the next gen entrepreneurs.
